“Is Qi Wireless Charging a gimmick?” I hear this question all the time, in fact I heard it just this morning on Google+. It might still feel like a gimmick to a lot of people, but it really isn’t. The fact that you can put your phone into a dock in your car and not have to plug in your phone for it to charge is fantastic. Yes you have to plug in the dock, but you are able to just jump in the car, throw your phone in the dock and it’ll start charging. Which is pretty darn neat. Obviously this will only work with phones that have Qi Wireless charging built in, like the Nexus 6, Droid Turbo, Xperia Z3v and a few others.
I’ve spent the last couple of weeks with the Tylt Vu Car Wireless Charger and the Motorola Droid Turbo. And was quite surprised with how well it worked out. With the larger devices, the charger does get a bit finicky about charging the device, especially with the Nexus 6, but it does fit in there. And it does charge, albeit slowly. The only issue I had with the Vu Car Wireless Charger was the fact that it was so cold that the suction cup wasn’t working correctly. Which isn’t Tylt’s problem or fault, but mother nature’s.
There are three parts to this wireless charger. There’s the actual dock, the arm with the suction cup and then the cable. With the cable that plugs into your car, there is also a USB port there, so you can charge another phone or tablet at the same time. Or if you have a phone that doesn’t support Qi Charging, you can charge the phone that’s in the dock. With the dock, you have a nice soft plastic on the edges, to keep your phone safe and keep it from getting scratched up. And there’s not really much to say about the arm and suction cup really.
It all works just as you’d expect it too. It’s a very awesome car dock that anyone who has a Qi Wireless Charging device is going to absolutely love. It’s not a cheap one, and it is going for $79.99 right now on Tylt’s website. It also comes in grey, red, yellow, and blue.
